When you use the word "exercise" for children, most people end up picturing heavy workouts at the gym. But who encourages little children to lift heavy weights or spend half an hour on a treadmill? For children, exercise means going out and having fun! Be it cricket, football, swimming, dance classes or even something as simple as pakdam pakdai. Not to mention how much exercise children get just by being children - running around and being hyper all the time.
All healthy tips for kids will tell you that physical activity in children should be encouraged, and why not? It helps children develop a stronger physique, stronger bones and keeps obesity at bay. The best part is that all of this can be achieved in a very fun manner. Parents should ensure that their child gets some form of physical activity or the other for one hour daily.
If they hesitate or are not confident enough, especially when the activity involves mingling with other children, go out of your way to support your child. For example, if your child feels shy attending a dance class, attend the class with them for 3-4 sessions. Sit in a corner and make sure your child can see you sitting there, knowing you're around, should they need you. This will boost their confidence and soon enough, your child will be comfortable attending class alone.
Exercising can be fun for the entire family as well. You can walk or cycle to nearby places instead of taking the car. If you have a dog, take him out for 15 minute walks twice a day. The best times would be during early mornings and evenings. Just remember to let your child walk small dogs, because the larger ones are difficult to handle.
If there's a park near your home, then that in itself is an excellent opportunity for your child. Encourage your child to make new friends with whom they can actively play sports. For those who have no dogs or parks near their homes, the best option is to find the closest dance, swimming, aerobics class to your home and enroll your child in it. Make it a family activity; it would be a great bonding experience for everybody involved.
Keep in mind that even though healthy tips for kids encourage physical activities, too much of it would be harmful for them. Prolonged periods of physical activities make your child feel severely exhausted, dehydrated or even result in irregular sleep patterns.
